Adventure Hooks: Forest

I am currently adding adventure hooks to my gazetteer of the City of Pentée. Having done some of the thinking for coming up with these hooks during a hike through forests and mountains, I also thought of some adventure hooks for the forest, which I have tooted via Mastodon one per day during the last week. Here is the complete collection of a week worth of hooks, with an additional bonus hook at the end:
-
From a magpie's nest dangles a locket, concealing two portraits within. On the right, the newlywed scion of the nearby manor is evident, but the lady on the left is undoubtedly not his bride.
-
A golden ring gleams between mouldy leaves, ensnared by gnarled roots resembling a twisted hand.
-
Hidden in a hollow trunk lies a pouch of gold. The pouch also contains a note: "This is the last time, do not ask for more." A faint crunch of twigs and a soft rustling of leaves betray the presence of someone moving nearby in the forest.
-
A whimper in the undergrowth betrays a small bear cup, frightened and famished. Not far off, the lifeless forms of a mature bear and two more cups lie sprawled in front of a cave's entrance. Something stirs within.
-
In the middle of a forest lake, a miasma of swirling greenish water is slowly expanding towards the shore. Those who have touched it are withering away, mere shadows of their former selves. What will happen when the swirling waters reach the land? Does this have to do with the nearby temple ruins or the stranger who arrived a while ago in the village at the forest's edge?
-
Along a forest path, someone has set an amateurish trap, its existence glaringly apparent. Who would use such a clumsily devised contraption? And what quarry might they hope to ensnare with it?
-
Amidst a clearing, a shabby-looking hut surprises with a resistant door lock, revealing an opulent interior adorned with exquisite combinations of velvet, silk, ebony, and ivory.
-
Wafting through the air, the scent of fire-roasted meat fills the surroundings. A stranded carriage rests in the ditch, without any trace of passengers, belongings, or steeds. Doesn't the aroma of the roast carry a hint of horse?
A possible continuation for the last of these adventure hooks can be found in Kobold Press' blog: The impregnable fortress of Dib.
